Welcome to Episode 71! Our guests are George (Retro Ramble Podcast) and Ben (@topfilmtip on Twitter) and we’re reviewing George’s choice the 1997 high concept sci fi Gattaca.
Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law star in this criminally overlooked film set in a futuristic society driven by eugenics where Hawke fights to claim his space at Gattaca Aerospace Corporation and travel in space despite his genetic disadvantages.
Despite the terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE film posters Gattaca is just shy of brilliant. One reason why the film doesn’t feel dated is its focus on script and feel, from the building design to lack of technology to the crisp suits it means the acting tells the story. All the leads are great, even if Uma is a big underused and there are a few delights in the supporting roles.
