The Birdcage is a 1996 remake of La Cage aux Folles starring Robin Williams (Armand) and Nathan Lane (Albert) as a gay couple who own a Miami drag club, who are forced to play a straight couple and entertain Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest at a dinner party. It also features a Hank Azaria performance wearing very little apart from denim hotpants.
The Birdcage was the 9th highest grossing film in American in 1996, while that seems surprising it is a testament to the draw of Robin Williams. While The Birdcage is a good 40 minutes longer than it should be the performances from Williams and Lane make it just about worth the inflated runtime.
