Will Collins (screenwriter for Wolfwalkers) and Kevin Lehane (screenwriter for Grabbers) from The Best Bits podcast return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Will’s choice No Country for Old Men.
No Country for Old Men is the multi award-winning (Best Picture, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars) 2007 neo-Western crime thriller from Joel and Ethan Coen. Based on the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy it stars Tommy Lee Jones as a local sheriff Ed Tom Bell, Josh Brolin as Llewelyn Moss – a Vietnam vet who stumbles across a large amount of money from a drug deal on bad and a terrifying Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh – a psychopath hitman hired to track down the missing drug deal money.
No Country for Old Men is violent, detached, bleak but also absurdly funny in places and widely considered the Coen’s greatest achievement in cinema. Less easy to recommend to people than say Fargo, Flixwatcher and guests score No Country for Old Man highly on recommendability with (caveats) but low on the small score to give an overall score of 3.96.
