Whiplash-Flixwatcher Podcast - Image 02

2014 was a golden year for films about drumming (see also Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) which beat Whiplash to Best Picture and Best Director) and Whiplash is, quote Helen a ‘masterpiece’.  Don’t be put off by the jazz, Whiplash hits you hard, like a cymbal to the head.

Shot over 19 days, its pacey, stylish, uncomfortable, tense, emotionally exhausting and features two unlikeable leads in stunning performances. Most notably J.K Simmons who won a record 47 awards for this role and what a performance it is.

Scores

Whiplash scores a very impressive 4.5 (still not beating What We Do In The Shadows) and has a lot of love from everyone, if you’re still reading this and haven’t seen it – WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? Go, go now and watch it!
