In this episode of Flixwatcher podcast we are joined by the lovely Gail Porter and the lovelier Boyd Hilton and we will be discussing the Netflix original film Okja.

Okja-Flixwatcher Podcast - Image 02

Okja is Gail’s choice and she chose it as it was recommended by her daughter. It was directed by Korean director Bong joon-ho and written by Jon Ronson. It is a story set in the alternative present-day where the Mirando Corporation as lead by Tilda Swinton’s character seeks to solve the problem of feeding the world by producing genetically modified super pigs.

One such super pig, the eponymous Okja, is raised by a young girl called Mija who lives with her grandfather on a farm in Korea. Mija finds out that are Okja has to be taken away and goes on an adventure to save her best friend.

Episode 33 crew found it quite difficult to assign a genre to Okja but that doesn’t necessarily seem like a problem. Everyone enjoyed the cast and the overall theme and vibe of the film.

Scores

Okja scored a slightly disappointing 3.5. It scored highly on recommendability and engagement whilst watching but scored lower on repeat viewing and small screen score. It was a shame that many people didn’t get the opportunity to see Okja at the cinema, however, it is great that films like this can get as wide a release as possible via Netflix
