Smith and Stew from It Doesn’t Hold Up podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Smith’s choice The Net.

The Net (1995) is an action thriller staring Sandra Bullock as a systems analyst from producer turned director Irwin Winkler.

Angela Bennett (Bullock) a single, permanently online systems analyst gets involved in a conspiracy when she unknowingly receives a floppy disk with confidential information. On vacation she meets Jack (Jeremy Northam) who under the guise of a holiday romance tries to kill Angela. She manages to escape but quickly discovers her identity has been erased online.

The Net is a film that shows us the thrills of ordering pizza online and the indestructible floppy disk. Time has not been kind to films about ‘the internet’ from the 1990s and The Net is no exception.

There is no reason for this film to be two hours but it is! This is reflected in the scoring and The Net scores 2.49 overall.
